United Pacific partnered with Motor Trend's Hot Rod Week to Wicked (now owned by CPP) to transform a 1971 C10 truck into a true hot rod in just five days.
The project involved upgrading the suspension, brakes, and drivetrain components, including a ZZ6 small block Chevy crate engine from Gandrud Chevrolet, Holley Terminator Stealth throttle bodies, and a Gearstar transmission paired with a Strange 9-inch rearend.
United Pacific also installed industry-leading LED lighting and various parts such as the front grille, bumpers, tailgate, and LED turn signal mirrors, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. Additional features include Dakota Digital gauges, a climate control system from Old Air Products, and Procar bucket seats from Scat.
The build was documented with live video and daily updates available online at hotrod.com.
Day 1 started with wrenches and sparks flying as the Week to Wicked crew transformed a 1971 long-bed Chevy into a short-bed model. They stripped down the body, already equipped with United Pacific body panels, in preparation for installing new suspension, drivetrain, brakes, steering components, a fresh set of wheels and tires, and some minor interior upgrades before Friday.
Day 2 concludes with the majority of the vehicle system components installed. CPP is a key supplier providing essential components for the United Pacific Week to Wicked project. These include the truck's steering system (comprising a tilt column, linkage kit, and Midnite Series wheel), fuel system (featuring an EFI-ready 20-gallon tank with a new modular-style filler option and an EFI pump install kit), mounts for installing our Holley-equipped small-block from Gandrud Chevrolet, and a transmission crossmember for the 700-4R supplied by Gearstar Performance. Additionally, American Legend Wheels contributed a set of 18-inch Racers, currently being fitted with fresh rubber by Continental Tires.
Day 3 of the United Pacific Week to Wicked was filled with miscellaneous tasks that needed to be tackled simultaneously. Progress on completing the drivetrain, with the ZZ6 350 small-block and 700-R4 transmission mated up to the 9-inch Posi-rearend installed on Day 1, faced minor setbacks. The build team focused on wiring courtesy of American Autowire, installing the bed floor fuel filler, digital gauge instrumentation, A/C and radiator installation, CPP brakes, and HydraStop Hydraulic Assist Systems. Finally, David from the United Pacific product team addressed the lighting tasks, including incorporating United Pacific’s cargo light and third brake light.
Day 4 motors along with attention to the engine bay as the ZZ6 350 ci small-block and 700-R4 transmission are installed. The engine is fitted with a dual-quad throttle body EFI system connected to the fuel lines that run past the cab to the new aluminum fuel tank relocated under the bed. While the crew continues to find the right mixture of fuel, spark, and air, connections are made to the wiring, headers are mounted, and a full-length exhaust is welded and hung. Previously equipped United Pacific exterior bodies and parts are reinstalled. As the day nears its end, the team focuses on achieving the first successful mixture of spark, fuel, and air for the C10's small-block. The final days promise more excitement with burnout tests for the United Pacific Week to Wicked.
Day 5 marks the final day of the United Pacific Week to Wicked, and we’re determined to finish by midnight! With 90% of the build complete, the biggest task—firing up and tuning the ZZ6 small-block—was met with applause as our dual-quad Holley Sniper EFI roared to life on the first crank of the HyperSpark ignition. United Pacific completed the installation of their LED lights, including 7-inch headlights, amber running lights, and sequential taillights. The interior got a refresh with new carpet, door panels, Pro Car bucket seats from Scat, and a Bluetooth stereo system from Custom AutoSound. Our 18-inch American Legend Racers, fitted with Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires, were mounted, preparing the C10 for its first test drive. The Week to Wicked build concluded successfully.
